Band of Skulls
March 25, 2014
The Ritz | Manchester, UK
Review + Photos by: Priti Shikotra

Some of us guys and gals at Local Wolves came by English alternative rock band hailing from Southampton, UK,  Band of Skulls after hearing their track Friends on The Twilight Saga: New Moon Soundtrack. Totally fell in love with the track and couldn’t get it off repeat of course! So we were stoked to be able to cover the show in Manchester, UK when they played at The Ritz on their current UK leg of the tour, promoting their forthcoming album, Himalayan. The album drops on 31st March. The crowd were ready for Band of Skulls to hit the stage, couple of minutes past 9:00pm they graced the stage with their presence! Opener song, ”Asleep At The Wheel” a track taken from their forthcoming album, made us want to stomp our feet and rock out, that was just the beginning. Next song up, Himalayan reminded us of old school rock n roll,  with a bit of a funky twang to it, upbeat and positive vibes, if you were road tripping, with the window down and summer breeze, this is the track you’d be playing. Some gorgeous guitars making beau sounds! We couldn’t help but rock out to ”The Devil Takes Care Of His Own,”personal fave from their album, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey. Such a timeless track, it’s a track you could play in 20 years time and it still feels fresh and new. The track kicks some serious epicness - The crowd were no doubt loving it as they jumped around and it felt like a rock show too. Band Of Skulls left the stage 13 songs later, and the encore followed. Finishing the show and bringing it to an end was their performances of “Sweet Sour,” “Light Of The Morning” and their anthem, “Diamond & Pearls.” The guys are up performing at multiple festivals over in the UK this Summer. It looks like they are finally getting the spotlight they truly deserve.  But before that, they are heading back on over to North America to play a string of dates! You can find out where they are headed to at http://bandofskulls.com/live - Go see them live & get yourself a copy of Himalayan when it drops. Terminal Five | New York, NY
Review + Photos by: Rachel Kober

Grouplove continued their Spreading Rumors spring tour this week with two sold out nights in New York City. The band returned to Terminal 5 last Wednesday and Thursday to provide their fans with two nights of joyful songs and playful dancing. Lead singers Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi did not disappoint. Their dancing, headbanding and jumping kept the crowd was just as hyped as they were. Playing fan favorites like “Shark Attack” to “Itchin’ On A Photograph” and “Tongue Tied,” the band lived up to their reputation of putting on an amazing live performance. They certainly did Beyonce justice by putting their own twist on her hit, “Drunk in Love.” Closing out the show with “Colours” from their 2011 self titled album was a perfect ending to both a great and tiring night.

Haim performed at the Manchester Academy on March 8, 2014 in Manchester, United Kingdom.

+ Photographs by Priti Shikotra.

Big fans of Haim here over at Local Wolves Magazine. We love the trio and what they’re rocking out. We simply can’t get them off our playlist! So we were stoked to be able to cover the Manchester show at Manchester Academy when they were in town.

The trio have been popping up left right and centre since last year, their music is slick and their style so savvy - People may think they have popped up from nowhere but of course they have been honing their skills and craft over the years and came together and decided to go down the music route, and well, here they are! The girls debut album Day Are Gone rubs off a feel good up beat and positive vibe, but you know what they say, you can’t judge a band until you see them live. Let us tell you now, these girls are absolutely outstanding live and & ooze pure rock and roll. Like, REAL rock & roll. There is an air of authenticity about them and their sound when they hit the stage, and it feels like people are hungry for this kind of authenticity.

The show was a sold out affair, the venue is able to host around 2,300 bodies. It’s no surprise there really. They were a little late on stage, but hey it’s fashionable for girls to be late right?! Plus it’s Haim…they can rock that vibe. So as you can imagine, by the time they hit the stage, the fans were pumped and ready to rock out. The fans were more than delighted by the opener, Falling. The fan’s were up for a sing along by the time Don’t Save Me came around. And wait for it, oh yes, the girls went and rocked out a XO cover by Queen Bey! Icing on the cake..with cherries on top!

The girls are in sync with each other, and it shows in the killer performance they deliver. So slick! Not just this, but the interaction with the fans from the stage is something artists can most definitely take something from. Este Haim’s banter with the crowd just adds to their loveability! These girls are around for a while - If you want a good old rock and roll show, you gotta go catch them live right away!
